Hive duo chosen for UK top 100 entrepreneurs group

Two companies supported by The Hive at Nottingham Trent University have been chosen to be part of a unique enterprise community of 100, high-potential start-ups and aspirant entrepreneurs.

Strafe Creative and Pulse Student Network Limited will now benefit from a range of support after being invited to join the Intuit 100up scheme, a joint venture from international software company, Intuit, and the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills, supported by the National Association of College and University Entrepreneurs.

To be considered for the project, each company had to submit a 150 word ‘elevator pitch' on their company and what they have achieved so far.

Ross Davies and Patrick Dolan founded the digital design agency, Strafe Creative, after undertaking two programmes at The Hive, Nottingham Trent University's Centre for Entrepreneurship and Enterprise, where they are still based. The agency is known for its innovative approach and has a diverse range of clients across the country.

Pulse Student Network Limited, founded by Daniel Hill, provides a variety of products and services for universities and students around the UK, including clothing, event management, international travel and most recently property and private accommodation. Daniel joined The Hive one week after graduating from Nottingham Business School and the business now trades internationally with a turnover of over £150,000.

After being accepted to the Intuit 100up scheme, Ross and Daniel attended the recent Global Entrepreneurship Congress, where they heard from inspirational entrepreneurs such as Richard Branson, Martha Lane Fox, Lord Heseltine and Doug Richard.

Daniel Hill said: "Being part of this community means that in the future we'll have the opportunity to share our own views on entrepreneurship with business and enterprise leaders, as well as benefiting from other business-boosting events."

The Hive business manager, Chris Hall, said: "This is a fantastic opportunity for both businesses. The networking and access to other successful entrepreneurs will really help them to push their companies forward. We hope that the success of these two ventures, which only started up a couple of years ago, shows what can be achieved and will encourage and inspire even more people to consider starting up their own businesses and come to The Hive for help to make it happen."
